Kromski Spinning Wheels

The Kromskis of Wolsztyn, Poland, have been wood turners and wheel workers for three generations. Now, for the first time, their recently re-engineered wheels with characteristic "old world" styling and charm are available outside of Poland. New Voyager is the exclusive distributor of the Kromski spinning products.

Combining excellent craftsmanship and features for today's demanding spinners, these wheels and related products are an exceptional value and are sure to become favorites in the spinning community.

*NEW*The Kromski Sonata

The Sonata, from the Kromskis of Poland, is a marriage between the classic architecture and design concepts shared with all other Kromski wheels and the functional needs of a wheel that folds. You get both.

It is a full-size spinning wheel that folds and packs away as a small package, making it perfect for traveling, guild and festival gatherings or simply storage when not in use.

Daniel Kromski has been contemplating a folding wheel for several years and began last year to put turning knife to wood. The final result is a fusion of the needs of a modern folding wheel and the traditional look of Kromski wheels. The Sonata is a folding wheel, but much more. The wheel diameter is 19" and ratios are 6.7, 12.5 and 14 to 1. The flyer is single drive and uses an elastic drive band which simplifies changing speeds. The bobbins are the same design used on other Kromski wheels which means you can move from wheel to wheel with no problem.

The Sonata folds and sets-up easily and quickly.

The Kromski Prelude

PreludeThe newest spinning wheel from the Kromskis of Poland. The Prelude is just the wheel for beginners or perhaps a second Kromski wheel for others. It has the look of an antique wheel and the high degree of wood turning that the Kromskis are famous for, but it also has all the touches modern spinners expect.

The Kromski Prelude is a single drive wheel; a first for the Kromskis. The good news is that it uses the same bobbins as all the other Kromski wheels. This means that, as you consider adding a second or third Kromski wheel, you know your bobbins will work with all the different models!

The Prelude is easy to treadle, easy to transport, and has an 18" diameter wheel (same as the Kromski Minstrel) for excellent ratios. If you like, you can swivel the mother-of-all in line with the bench for a more compact "package" when moving the wheel or for storage.

The Prelude is made of European alder and birch. No Kromski wheel has any plastic parts and as such makes the perfect wheel for reenactors. Additional specifications:

The Kromski Polonaise

This wheel has the look of wheels from the Baltic area of Poland and Scandinavia. In fact, a Polonaisewell known spinning wheel historian has said that the manner in which this wheel is built is as close to being historically correct as he has seen. This will be a plus for spinners wanting the "real thing" and for the growing community of reenactors. The amount of decorative turning on this wheel is substantial, making it a sight to behold.

The Polonaise features functional wood threaded wheel angle adjustments so the proper angle can be obtained with the flyer. “Pin and socket” bearings support the wheel, offering low friction and exceptional ease of treadling. All of the wheel hardware sits between the wheel posts and the footman passes through the bench to the treadle.

Kromski Quick Change Flyer Set

quick change flyer set

Here is an innovation from the Kromskis that will make changing bobbins on a double drive set-up easier. The spindle on the flyer "breaks" at the base of the flyer allowing you to pull off the flyer and the bobbin without removing the whorl or the drive band from the whorl. Comes with conversion parts, flyer and three Quick Change bobbins. Specify your Kromski wheel type. Requires different bobbins than what is standard with all Kromski wheels.

Kromski Tensioned Lazy Kates

You can choose from two styles of lazy kates. The arched version comes standard with all Mazurka and Symphony wheels; the upright Kate comes standard with the Polonaise.

These three-bobbin kates are distinctive in their look as well as for ease of use and adapability should you have other size bobbins you wish to ply from. They hold Kromski bobbins, of course, but also Ashford (standard bobbins), Jensen, Reeves, Timbertops, Roberta (regular), Majacraft and Lendrum (regular and very fast bobbins).

And if not for spinning, you will find this stool works well in a variety of settings. Available unfinished or with a clear, mahogany or walnut finish
